Merica and Uropia
You are not alone. You can never be alone. You always have your familiar with you. When you sleep, eat, go to the bathroom, etc.
Kyle woke up thinking about the past. He had read that a long time ago people lived their lives without a familiar. Some people had what was referred to as 'pets'. Feeding them different food and leaving them alone in cages. They would even have farms of animals that they would slaughter and then package for later consumption.
That was before the day of enlightenment. When all mammals were given sentience. When all warm blooded creatures were given the ability to think and talk.
After that day the world went into utter chaos. There was fighting and many people died. Nations fell and life became very brutal.
But then after a long time two nations rose up from the ashes, Merica and Uropia.
They spoke the same language, the only difference was the mating ritual. In which all humans were required to be paired to another sentient.
In Merica you were paired with a wolf. In Uropia you are paired with a fox. You would think they are basically the same thing. But there are a lot of difference between the two.
